Making Membership Fun

Since the Federation's inception as a members' organization in 1976, instructors and school owners have been the gateway to Federation membership for tens of thousands of students.
Membership presentation methods employed by instructors and schools vary widely.
One of the more interesting methods conveyed to me by a creative school owner is how they “Make Membership Fun.” Hopefully we can schedule them to share that with the Test Pilot Group during the program.
Timeframes in which students are introduced to Federation membership also vary widely.
Ultimately, a student is required to be a member so they can be tested for official Moo Duk Kwan® gup rank certification and improving this process will benefit all. (membership)
Scientific research confirms that rewarding desired behavior sooner prolongs interest and encourages motivation to continue that behavior much more effectively than rewarding it later. (retention)
As the Federation seeks to transition various processes online, the development of user friendly systems requires clear understanding of the desired outcome. (development)
One overarching goal is to improve key Federation touchpoints on schools such as
- Support student retention by encouraging New Student/Parent Conversion To Federation Member asap (support an earlier conversion process)
- Provide Simple & Efficient Membership Registration with benefits for using it (provide appealing conversion reasons)
- Provide rapid fulfillment of membership kits to new members (improve member service & retention impact)
- Enable Schools To Monitor Membership Status of Students in real-time (improve efficiency)
- Encourage testing new students at 30 days for 9th Gup. (retention)
- Encourage 30-Day testing cycles at school (retention)
- Streamline processes for schools recommending students for Gup rank (efficiency)
- Streamline processes for schools recommending students for Dan Rank (efficiency)
- Provide rapid receipt of Gup rank certificates to School for ceremonial presentation to students (retention & efficiency)
These targeted outcomes and others will be discussed and addressed during the Test Pilot program with input from participating school owners.
Hopefully, the Test Pilot group can help the Federation avoid the pitfalls illustrated in the image above as we transition key processes online to help make membership fun. 🙂
